Enlightened Botanicals / Beautiful Intentions

This collection is presented in two rooms of the Mary C Daly Gallery. The 17 “Enlightened Botanicals” room to the right of the Mercy Center entrance contains images created in 2021 - 2023, featuring locally grown flower and plant cuttings. They are reminders of the garden as sanctuary and the flower as ephemeral gift of beauty. Light is used to increase dimensionality, impact and a sense of buoyancy. The black backgrounds heighten a sense of drama. To read the backstory of this process, click here.

The dozen mosaic style, stacked, still life in the “Beautiful Intentions” room to the left of the entrance, made in 2023, are intended as allegorical totems for wishing and manifesting all good things. Transparent, translucent and reflective rocks, marbles and gold leaf are added to symbolic plants to amplify the light and energize the grouping, conveying positivity and spiritual connection.

Thank you to the Connecticut gardeners, flower farmers and especially to my friend Fran, who lent me some of her crystal treasures for this series.

In April, 2019, I was diagnosed with Stage 4, Non Small Cell Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer. This rare form of cancer with no known cause or cure is identified by an ALK positive chromosomal mutation. Scanning flower bouquets and arrangements of plants with small, meaningful objects within a sunbeam, has been medicine for my mind and soul and an act of hope. We must all make time to play and make room for awe and wonder about our natural world.

This collection of large archival inkjet on matte photo paper prints are presented in poster frames with special (lower) pricing. I will be donating 10 percent of sales from this show to ALK Positive lung cancer research. Please come and bring your friends!
